Born and raised in Florida, I was ready to explore a new area of the US.  After interviewing and traveling all over I decided on MacNeal as the place I wanted to spend the next 3 years of my life.  I was also a sub-intern here for a month and MacNeal was very inviting. The faculty, specialists, and residents were all very supportive and I felt it was a very strong and well-rounded program. I could not be happier with the choice I made.

My interest include underserved medicine and sports medicine.  Outside of residency I enjoy cooking, reading, shopping, traveling, playing soccer and watching college football: Go Gators!

I wanted to do my residency at MacNeal because of the great environment for learning it provides.  It is a community hospital affiliated with the University of Chicago.  We get to train in a virtually unopposed program with direct interaction with Family Medicine attendings and specialists.  I feel like we get a huge amount of experience with patients from all backgrounds, and there are also numerous opportunities available for procedures.  MacNeal has a very well-balanced residency program with strengths in all areas of Family Medicine.  When I finish my training here, I feel I will be prepared for any type of practice in any type of setting.  My other interests include sports (Go Cubs! Go Bears!), music, golf, and camping.  But I mostly enjoy just hanging out with my wife and my friends and family.

I was looking for a strong residency program in family practice.  The MacNeal Family Practice program offered a strong training schedule and had the highest reputation.  It was the most experienced program that I found in my search.  I feel like I have found a place where I can learn and achieve my goal of becoming a qualified and well-experienced family physician.  I cannot fully explain why I feel so much at home when I'm at MacNeal.  It is simply a friendly, caring environment where I feel supported.  I'm also very pleased to train in a location that is close to my family.  I am a very proud aunt and nothing makes me smile more than seeing my niece on my day off.

When looking at the different residency programs I knew that I wanted to stay in Chicago and that I wanted to be at a community hospital rather than at a large University hospital.  MacNeal was the program that stuck out for me because of the camaraderie among the residents, the excellent reputation that it has around Chicago, and because of the overall friendly atmosphere.  I was also impressed by size of the program - there are over 30 residents so you are always bound to see a familiar face around the hospital.  Staying in Chicago allows me to be close to my family and friends.  In my spare time I enjoy taking in a game at Comiskey, hanging out with friends and family, and playing the bagpipes.

I looked at all the Family Medicine residency programs in the Chicago-land area, and it was a very confusing process in the beginning. After I visited MacNeal, however, things became much easier. Anyone here can tell you that the hospital staff, including the nurses and specialists, are knowledgeable and supportive.  The faculty always put resident learning as their foremost agenda. I've heard many times during my interviews that the most important factor when deciding on a Family Medicine residency program is the people you'll be working with, as most of the curriculum is very similar anywhere you go. Not only do I believe this is true, but I also believe that I found an ideal home for me, especially given my experience in the last few months. During my free time, I enjoy watching movies, playing around with my guitar, walking around the city, shopping, and eating at yummy restaurants.

I grew up outside Toronto, and moved to the Chicagoland area my junior year of high school.  I went to medical school wanting to be a family doctor and MacNeal quickly became my top choice for residency.  The program is well established, with a great reputation, a well-rounded curriculum, and top-notch faculty.  The environment is friendly and supportive.  Also, the residency class is large, so you have many colleagues as a source of encouragement and help.  My medical interests include women's health.  Outside of medicine I enjoy spending time with my husband, being involved with my church, playing classical piano and traveling.

I grew up in Chicago, and my first encounters with MacNeal were actually as a patient, and as the family member of patients. Remembering how both I and my loved ones were cared for left an incredible impact on me, as did the fact that MacNeal has one of the strongest reputations in the Chicagoland area for family medicine training. I chose MacNeal not only for the strong educational environment it provided during a rotation I did as a student, but also because of the people. I truly feel like I've joined a "family" here, with fellow residents and attendings who love what they do. Recently married, I enjoy spending time with my new husband, family, and friends.

I was born and raised in Minnesota and came to Chicago for medical school. I knew I wanted to continue my education in Chicago and chose MacNeal because of its reputation for being a strong, well-respected program. And, I'm so happy with my decision! The faculty at MacNeal is both knowledgeable and caring. The residents have been welcoming and friendly. After witnessing the knowledge base and experience that the senior residents display, I feel comfortable that the program at MacNeal will prepare me well for professional life after residency. I appreciate the location of MacNeal Hospital for its diverse patient population and its proximity to Chicago. Living near Chicago allows me to enjoy the many activities it offers including, biking trails, running paths, and a wide variety of restaurants!!!

After spending my intern year at a Family Medicine program in California, I decided to move back to Chicago where I attended medical school to be closer to my friends and family.  After being here for over a year now, I am glad that I made the move.  I love living in the city, and everyone at MacNeal has been so warm and supportive.  All of the faculty and residents made me feel at home from day one.

I chose MacNeal for my family medicine training because the program is so invested in both the academic well-being of its residents as well as the emotional growth that occurs through the challenges of residency.  The emphasis on behavioral health really drew me.  It is unique to this program's curriculum, a strength that ultimately teaches residents a true appreciation for the humanity that accompanies the evidenced-based nature of medical practice.  Most importantly, family medicine is well-respected at MacNeal, making the environment especially comforting during the rigors of residency life.  The strong academic and evidence-based approach to teaching, the approachable faculty, the feeling of camaraderie among staff and residents, and the emphasis on both urban and community medicine make MacNeal the most well-rounded program. I am particularly interested in adolescent health, dermatology, and medical education curriculum development. In my free time I have always enjoyed taking dance classes, going to concerts, traveling, taking naps with my pug Henna, and watching all the CSI reruns.

I chose MacNeal because I was lucky enough to have first hand exposure to the excellent teaching during my third year FM rotation.  The faculty are skilled at not only maximizing your learning but also in providing emotional support and encouragement needed to become the doctor you want to be with your individual talents and interests.  There are 11 other residents per class that makes supporting each other, learning from each other and sharing responsibilities easy.  I am interested in everything and I came to MacNeal for its well-balanced curriculum and strong reputation.  Not only is there diverse pathology but we also see patients in a high school clinic, an underserved clinic and in nursing homes.  The experience is mostly at one community hospital and everyone is in one busy clinic.  Not only do the faculty teach but the community doctors whose patients we care for in the hospital are patient, willing to explain and teach by example what being a community doctor is like.  We also have great relationships with the specialists in the hospital who also teach directly.  This is the place to come to feel challenged and supported. Outside of MacNeal I live in the South Loop section of Chicago.  The commute is easy and I am near all of the festivities of Grant Park and downtown.  I enjoy traveling, trying new restaurants, jogging and have recently taken sailing lessons.
