Sports Medicine Rotation for Medical Students

General Description:

This clerkship provides students an introduction to the broad field of sports medicine. The student will spend time with the primary care sports medicine faculty and fellow, athletic trainers, and orthopedists. There will be opportunities to learn musculoskeletal and pre-participation screening exams, to attend sporting events, to spend time in training rooms at both a high school and university, and to evaluate and treat orthopedic and medical conditions related to activity. Upon completion of the rotation the student should have a better understanding of the following: the evaluation and treatment of activity-related injuries; the evaluation and treatment of selected medical conditions as they relate to physical activity; physical activity counseling; issues involved in serving as a team physician; and the roles of different members of the sports medicine health care team.

Dr. Henderson is a board certified Family Physician with a CAQ in Primary Care Sports Medicine.

Length of Rotation: 4 weeks.
